The Trend—Wispy Whites

There was a time when my wardrobe consisted of only black, dark blue and deep gray. Fitting surely for my youthful, punk rock stage. But later on, I decided to play around with color, adding bright hues and fun patterns to my look, which seemed to accompany my undergraduate spirit of trying anything and exploration. Now as a graduate student, and dare I say it adult?, I have developed a more mature style. I have realized that in the past I jumped from one extreme to the next, ignoring the basics. And what can be more basic than a lovely shade of white?

Without a doubt, no wardrobe is complete without a few white options. White clothing works as a great foundation for any outfit, style, or look. It sets up the perfect blank canvas, awaiting your wonderful artistic creations.

White on White

Take a break from patterns and color blocking with a white on white look. It is extremely refreshing to one’s usual style. However, the one color can make the outfit very plain and heavy. Therefore, try mixing up either the proportions, a long flowy white top with tight shorts, or the materials, leather pants with a silky white blouse. You can also try combining various shades of white. Mix and match cream, ivory, stark white or off-white for a clean ensemble.

The color white is amazing because it is so versatile. You can wear white for either work or play.

Work

Try the boy-meets-girl look with a sharp white button-up. Add this item with loose pants or a tight pencil skirt for a bit of feminine flare. If the men’s look is too aggressive for you, try a softer white button-up with rounded collars and form-fitting cuts.

Play

White is also perfect for many social outings because it lends itself to many stylistic options. The color evokes an easy going and fuss free look. White tones also allow accessories to shine. Try adding bright bags or chunky jewelry to a simple white dress for an easy yet fun outfit.
