Amani Faiz’s latest shoot is titled 2050, but it’s not making projections of the date the world will end or anything similarly dramatic. No, rather it’s cleverly titled to imply a mix of the past and future; a merging of the fashions of the 1950s with what’s happening now and what’s to come.
To that end stylist Manuel Spiropoulos along with hair and makeup artist Nicola Johnson channeled the look of a ‘bored ’50s housewife’ but with an out-there twist. A black halter top marries a retro feel with sheer mesh pants; a black dress and seamed stockings are updated with ankle boots; leather gloves and on-trend sunglasses add an edge to a classic dress.
By contrasting the glamour of the ’50s with modern styles, not to mention a country backdrop that defies the protagonist’s (played by model Sophie Sinclair) city-girl look, Faiz creates an interesting shoot.
