How do you capture the essence of youth? It can be something we look back on through the faded edges of nostalgia, the good things seeming even better because they’re gone; the sun brighter, the air cleaner, love stronger. Saturdays bring out the local young girls from the neighbourhood and they lounge, lazily, with their friends, looking after their younger siblings and spending time with their boyfriends. Dalton Louis noticed this weekend ritual in his own home town outside of NYC and wanted to recreate the story into a shoot.
To give the series that feel of youth being looked back on, of Saturday rituals and young love, Louis decided to shoot all analog. “I shot with a Hasselblad 500C, film and polaroids, and an old Polaroid Sun 660 camera that I hadn’t used in years and years,” he told us.
The analog effect works in his favour. Starring models Kasia and Louis Mayhew, along with young Grant of just 7 years old, you can view all of Dalton Louis‘s (daltonlouisphotography.webs.com) shoot at the gallery above.
