Sneakers for the fashionable Olympics spectator

Yes Olympic fever (nowhere near as ghastly as Bieber fever) has hit Fashionising.com’s London office. Finding the fashionable remedies hasn’t been quite as easy as you might think, however. Sure we brought you the best Olympic themed fashion photo shoot and followed up on the vintage Olympics theme by way of the John Smedley x Umbro recreation collection, but truly fashionable Olympic fusions have been few and far between. But things happen in threes, an adage again proven true courtesy of Bally’s limited-edition shoes.

Designed to commemorate the 2012 London Olympics, Bally’s limited edition West H. men’s sneakers play to a fact that the likes of Ralph Lauren have long capitalised on: people tend to love wearing anything emblazoned with a flag. Doubly so when there’s an international sporting event on. But subtlety and elegance always have an advantage in the fashion stakes, hence Bally have worked 12 different flags only across the sides of their leather sneakers and finished each off with a worn effect.

Late one Oxford night Daniel P Dykes set about creating a fashion publication that would go someway to being an arbiter on fashion as it appeals to the emerging power generations: those who don't remember a world without the Internet and for whom work plays second fiddle to pleasure. And so Fashionising.com was born as a publication for those who were focussed not just on fashion's trends, but on society's too, and how those trends could all go to heighten the art of living. Hence, Daniel sees a future where, for those young at heart, both fashion and style are grounded in traditional quality, but with a youthful, sensualised edge. Daniel is Fashionising.com's Editor in Chief and Chairman.
